Summary 

The Accounting and Administration Manager will lead part of Vernal Biosciences’ accounting, finance, and business operations.  This incumbent will manage the day-to-day financial and administrative operations of the company and assist in all areas as an internal partner to provide business and financial solutions.  These solutions will include financial reporting strategy and template creation, generating executive decision-enabling analytical reports, and providing administrative functions such as human resource operations and office management.

Responsibilities 

  • Lead all daily accounting operations including accounts payable/receivable, customer billing, cash receipts, general ledger, capital asset accounting, inventory valuations, and general financial reconciliations
  • Work with stakeholders such as CEO, CFO, & SVP of Operations, to establish, monitor, and report on budgets and key performance indicators (KPIs) to adhere to corporate objectives
  • Produce routinely scheduled and ad hoc financial reports and statements
  • Manage and administer payroll
  • Ensure company compliance with corporate policies, proper accounting methods and standards, and internal controls
  • Provide backup for inventory and purchasing activities in the company
  • Oversee annual audits

Key Responsibilities – Administration

  • Fundamental human resource administration for on/off boarding, benefits questions, maintaining employee records, screening, and interviewing candidates for employment, overseeing employee benefits administration and business relationship with Vernal’s contracted Professional Employer Organization (PEO)
  • Ensure all corporate records, business documents, correspondence, and records are properly filed and maintained
  • Manage business accounts and vendor accounts related to job function
  • Ensure office equipment and supplies are available and adequately maintained

The successful candidate should have

  • 5 years of experience as an Accounting Manager or equivalent
  • 5 years of experience in general office administration operations management including personnel supervision and management
  • Strong demonstrated information technology skills and the use of Business Intelligence (BI) Tools to communicate data driven insights
  • Excellent knowledge and experience with accounting software and databases
  • Working knowledge of accounting principles, cost accounting, practices, standards, laws, and regulations
  • Knowledge and understanding of personnel management as well as basic federal and state employment law
  • Knowledge and understanding of assessment techniques for examining, questioning, evaluating, and reporting on employee performance

Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
  • Strong command of the English language
  • Strong command of MS Office including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint as well as use of the internet and company portals
  • Critical thinker and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated planning and organizational skills
  • Demonstrated good business and personnel management skills
  • Ability to keep accurate and legible records
  • Able to handle basic conflict resolution
  • A relentless drive for quality in all areas of work
