Summary

Reporting to the SVP of Operations, the Senior Manager, Supply Chain is a critical support position to the mRNA manufacturing and R&D business units of the company. Working in close partnership with operational and quality management leaders, the Senior Manager, Supply Chain will be responsible for ensuring Vernal can efficiently source raw materials, manufacture products, store inventory, and transport shipments to consumers in a GMP environment. In this role, you will analyze logistics data to refine the supply chain, negotiate business relationships, and communicate with suppliers, distributors, and internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Sourcing and procurement of all raw and packaging materials via appropriate RFI, RFQ, RFPs, quote request with Vendors.
  • Negotiate supply agreements with vendors, establishing favorable terms and stable pricing as well as guaranteed supply of critical reagents through current and backup vendor selection to mitigate supply risk.
  • Work with Quality to establish and implement a supplier approval qualification program for all raw materials and packaging suppliers and to ensure supply chain systems and processes remain GxP compliant as appropriate.
  • Support Chain of Identity/Chain of Custody and ERP system implementation and maintenance for clinical and commercial business including vendor management, specification review, implementation, training, and change management.
  • Drive quarterly business reviews and periodic strategic vendor relationship management reviews with other stakeholders.
  • Oversee and manage the outbound shipping activities of finished goods and other materials and equipment as needed including the procurement of shipping materials such as ice and packing materials.
  • Work closely with production and R&D staff to ensure materials needs are met in a timely manner.
  • Work closely with the Inventory and Facilities Manager to create efficient materials management systems that comply with Vernal quality and manufacturing needs.
  • Collaborate with other departments to close operational gaps.
  • Optimize stockroom/warehouse functions.

Desired skills and background

  • Bachelor’s degree in the life sciences or business management. MBA, supply chain management, or equivalent education/certification preferred.
  • 5 years of supply chain/logistics experience and vendor management for raw and critical materials in a biotech/pharma/CDMO GMP manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in negotiating and executing supply agreements.
  • Experience working in an ERP environment. SAP preferred.
  • Demonstrated excellent organizational skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to balance competing departmental needs and priorities
  • Thorough understanding of and experience in a life science manufacturing and R&D environment
  • Attention to detail and documentation
